On Friday, the 28th of December, 2007, Women in Black, an organization of Israeli women against the occupation, commemorated 20 years of demonstrations in Paris Square in Jerusalem.  Every Friday since December 1987 Women in Black has demonstrated under the slogan “End the Occupation.”

The number of demonstrations, which began in Jerusalem, have spread around the country over the years, eventually growing to nearly forty different locations. Women in Black also inspired women’s movements in other parts of the world, including the former Yugoslavia and Colombia.

After 20 years of grassroots struggle, the unswerving message of Women in Black is that they will continue to demonstrate and struggle for as long as the Israeli occupation continues.
