Settler Violence Report- November 16th- December 10th
Hebron Region
On November 16th, settlers from Asfar, a settlement located to the east of the town of Sa?eer, destroyed 200 dunoms of Palestinian land. Afterwards, the army assisted the settlers in the construction of a fence surrounding the decimated property.
The land, located on the site of Qanan El A?raj, 600 meters to the north of the settlement, belongs to a number of Palestinian families including: Mohammed Husain Shalalda, Ahmad Abed El Qader Shalalda, Sameeh Shalalda, and Ahmad Fattah Shalalda. Sa?eer Municipality noted that this is not the first time that Asfar?s settlers have stolen Palestinian land. Prior to this incident, they stole over 300 demons and illegally planted thousands of trees. It seems the settlers are trying to foster geographic integrity between Asfar and the Ma?li ?Amos settlement to the north east. This mean that thousands more demons will be illegally confiscated by the settlers and the army. The settlers have already constructed a road connecting the two settlements.
On the 20th of November, settlers from the outpost of Bait Hadasa, located in Hebron?s downtown area, renewed attacks on students from the Qortoba Girls School. During the afternoon around ten settler youth threw stones and eggs on students on their way home from school. On that same day settlers from Karyat Arba? chased student down ?Prayer's Road,? the street linking the settlements with Hebron?s city center. The army and the settlers have designated this road for settler use only. Soldiers looked on as the settlers threw stones at the Palestinian residents. The Army refused to intervene.
On the 25th of November, settlers from Karyat Arba? renewed their work on a road linking western settlements with Prayer's Road. According to the plan the new road will stretch 500 meters and run through property belonging to the Abu Su?afan, Da?na and Jaber families. It is important to note that the Israeli Supreme Court ordered a stop to the road?s construction after the owners took their case to the court. In spite of this decision the settlers continue to make progress. Like the Prayer?s Road, this bypass will be designated for settler use only, severing Palestinian families from their land east of the newly constructed road. For all intents and purposes, the families will lose ownership of their land.
On the 26th of November, Shaker Adeeb Abu Aisha, a child from Tel Romaida, was stoned by three settlers from Ramot Yashai during the afternoon. Abu Aisha?s shoulder was injured during the attack. The settlers also threw stones at nearby houses.
From the 24th- 26th of November, settlers from the Giv?at Kharseena settlement to the north-east of Hebron damaged tens of demons to the north of the settlement. Omar Bader Ajrab, one of the landowners, reported that these actions are intended ?to expand the settlement and build roads for settlers use in the area. So far ninety three demons have been affected by this work. Hundreds of olive trees and grapevines were uprooted. We attempted to visit the site, but the settlement security guards prevented us from entering. More than forty Palestinian families are the rightful owners of the land.?
On the 29th on November, the settlers from Sosya and other settlements in the south hills of Hebron prevented farmers, internationals and Israeli activists from harvesting olives at Rojem Jamara, one km to the west of the settlement. Mohammed Naser Nawal?a, the chairman of the Local Council, reported that many settlers, some of them armed, prevented the farmers from entering the site. As the farmers and activists approached the site, settlers stoned 66 years old Sara Salama Nawaj?a. The settlers attempted to chase her down, but she managed to escape.
On the 3rd of December, six year old Mohammed ?Ayed Ja?baree was seriously injured after a settler?s car ran him over on Al- Ras road to the west of Karyat Arba?. Mohammed was taken to HadasaHospital for treatment. His condition was critical. Eyewitnesses from the area said that the driver sped up as he approached the children and students. During that night, settlers from Karyat Arba? stoned the houses of residents in Wadi Husain to the south-west of the settlement. Kayed Sa?eed Da?na reported: ?our houses are located very closed to the fence of the settlement and from time to time the settlers used to attack them by using stones or empty bottles. This time many settlers participated in the attack. My house was stoned and some windows? were broken. The homes of Mon?em Jaber, Jamil Abu Su?ifan, Monwer Jaber were also attacked. In this atmosphere we couldn?t sleep during the night. We informed the police, but no positive steps were taken, only promises.?
On the 7th of December at , the settlers of Beit Hadasa in Hebron?s downtown area stoned residents and shop owners in the Shallah market. Approximately 20 settlers threw stones and empty bottles on residents and shoppers, injuring one. When the Red Crescent Ambulance came, the soldiers held him for 20 minutes at the checkpoint. The settlers also stoned the aid officer- 27 year old ?Eed Abu Monshar from the Red crescent.
On the 7th of December, students from the Jewish Religious Institution of Karyat Arba? stoned the homes of residents east of the settlement for two days. Three windows were broken in the house of Jamal Abu Su?ifan. The family informed the Israeli police on the first day of the incident, but the police failed to act.
On the 10th of December, the Israeli Army ordered the seizure of 300 demons around the Nagahout settlement south-east of Hebron. The purpose is to build 5 army monitoring towers around the settlement in order to protect the area?s settlers. According to The Land Defense Committees in the Hebron District, the land is 500 meters to the west of the settlement. The real purpose of the order is to expand the settlement, seizing land from the Suwaite, Abu Sharar and Welad Mohammed families. Planted on this land are the families? olive trees.
Nablus and the Northern West Bank
On the 27th of November, roughly 50 settlers from Alon Moreh east of Nablus burned 500 olive trees belonging to families in the Salem village. Iyad Ishtayya from the village reported that the settlers came to Lahaf, east of the village, and burned the trees. ?When we went to stop the fire we found around 500 damaged and burned trees. We went in the morning, so it seems that they started the attack very early.? He also added that this is the second time the settlers burned trees in the area. Two months ago hundreds of trees were burned. There is currently a case pending in Israeli court regarding that incident.
On the 28th of November, three settlers kidnapped and beat 17 year old Nor El deen Bani Shamsa from Beta village east of Nablus city. Bani Shamsa reported that ?while I was waiting for a car at 7 in the morning on the main junction near my village, a car stopped near me and I saw three men inside it. They called me in Arabic to come with them. I refused, but two of them got out the car and forced me into it. It was then that I realized they were settlers. The car traveled around 200 meters and stopped. Then they started to beat me by using sacks on my back, face, and hands. One of them injured my back with something resembling a knife. After a half-hour they left me and escaped. Ten minutes later I saw a Palestinian car, which stopped near me. They took me to RafidyaHospital in Nablus. I don?t know why the settlers attacked me.?
