Settler Violence and Occupation Watch: Report IV
November 6th - November 12th, 2000
On 6 November Five settlers from Khaseena settlement south of Hebron
stopped their car on the junction near the settlement and tried to
arrest Ibraheem warasneh from the village of Shuyoukh while he was
waiting for a service to take him home. When he refused to go with them
they beat him on the head and chest with stakes. He was rescued by
Palestinians that gathered in the site and was taken to hospital. On 7 November Ahmad Amin Khafesh (aged eight) from the village of
Marda in the north of the West Bank was killed after a settler ran over
him with his car. Ahmad and his brother Muhammad were waiting on the
main road after a day's work gathering olives in their field when the
car hit, after which the settler drove off leaving the child helpless
on the road. Muhammed said: "After my brother was injured and the
settler ran away, I waited for more than half an hour until another car
came and took the child to hospital. He died on the way". Eight Palestinians from Nablus were injured by settlers
from Alon Moreh and Yitzhar settlements. The settlers attacked and
threw stones on Arab cars on the main road between Ramallah and Nablus. On 8 November Settlers set fire to a plot of land in the Qalqilia
area, burning more than 100 dunums of land and trees. The settlers
prevented residents from putting out the fire, with the backing of the
Israeli army that was present at the site. In Huwarra, in the Nablus area, settlers shot at a residential area that has been under curfew for over a month. On November 12 A'mer Saleem al-Baden from the village of Tagou' east
of Bethlehem was injured by live ammunition after a settler fired on
him on the road to Bethlehem. According to Medical sources in Beit Jala
Hospital where he is being treated, his case is serious. Settlers from Neve danyel and Eli'ezer took over an
eight dunum hill called khalit Daher belonging to Isma'eel Mousa from
al- Khader village.
