Settler Attacks- Hebron Region

On February 22nd, Ahmed Mohammed Jaber, age 19, was taken to 'Alya Hospital in Hebron after five settlers from various outposts stoned him in the back while he was walking along the main street in the center of the city.

On March 4th, settlers from settlements and outposts in Hebron marched in the downtown streets in the afternoon. During the parade, they stoned houses and shops in the city. The soldiers who had been controlling the march did nothing to stop the settler attacks and aggressions. Settlers also attacked Ashraf Abu Aisha, a Palestinian resident in Hebron with stakes.

On March 8th, Ghazala Baradi'e, 18 years old, was inured in her back when a group of settlers stoned her near her home in the Jaber area to the east of the Ibraheemi Mosque. She was taken to 'Alya Hospital for treatment.

On March 10th, three settlers from Ramot Yashai chased Fida' Abu Aisha, age 15. The settlers tried to attack her while she was on her way back home from school in the afternoon. The settlers later stoned here house after she entered it.

On March 11th, the settlers from the Bait 'Ain settlement, south-west of the town of Beit Ommar in the Hebron District, damaged wall stones in the land to the west of the town. They also damaged trees and repeatedly tried to prevent the farmers from entering the land. The farmer Mohammed Abed Hameed Sulaibi reports that the settlers damaged the wall stones in his land and those of other families living south of the nearby settlement. The targeted land is around 200 dunams. It seems that the settlers want to confiscate the land through this sort of aggressions, which has increased recently despite many complains that were raised to the Israeli Police Station in Kfar Etzion.

On March 14th, three residents from the Palestinian village of Sosya were injured when settlers from Sosya settlement to the south east of Yatta attacked them. The residents who were attacked are Jamal Isam~eel Nawaj, 23, Samiha Ali Nawaj'a 30 and 'Alya Salameh nawaj'a 65. The attacks happened at the time that the residents were working with internationals from peace groups to plant trees on the village's land located to the west of the settlements. Eight settlers, some of them armed, attacked the Palestinians in an attempt to force them to leave the land. Soldiers came later and forced both settlers and residents to leave the area. It is important to mention here that only a week ago, settlers uprooted around 300 olive trees in the same area. The Local Council Chairman Mohammed Naser Nawaj'a said, "the settlers want to take over hundreds of dunams in the west of the settlement. To intimidate us, from time to time they uproot what we plant. This is very important land for the residents which they use for agriculture as well as grazing land for their goats. Through the settler's actions and attacks we will loose an important source of income."

On March 18th, settlers from the Ramot Yashai outpost in Tel Rumeida renewed their attacks on the residents' homes. The Tayseer Au Aisha family said that around ten settlers stoned five hoses in the area. The houses belong to Tayseer Abu Aisha, Hashem Azza, Wa'el Sharabtee, Rajab Abu Aisha and Radi Abu Asha. This attack injured Shareef, Fida and Iman Ab Aisha. It is well-known that settler attacks in this area take place daily.

On March 19th, settlers from outposts in the downtown area of Hebron entered Abed El Mun'em Jaber's shop in the Wadi Nassara area, west of Kiryat Arba'. In the past, settlers have attempted to take over the shop, only to be forced to leave by the army. Around the same time some settlers and soldiers chased students in the main road of Wadi Nassara (which the settlers refer to as Prayers Road), claiming it is only for settler use.

On March 22nd, the Israeli Army Officer in West Bank issued a new order to seize tens of dunams located around the Atna'eel settlement located to the south of Hebron. The reason of the order is to build 10 military observation towers for the protection of the settlers and the settlement. The sites referred to in the order are Om Amad, Khallet Abu Fasha, and Qanan Resh, which belong to many families from the towns of Dara and Yatta. Land Defense Committees in the District said that it seems this is the first step towards the expansion of the aforementioned settlement.

On March 25th, ten masked settlers from the Sosya settlement to the east of Yatta attacked the Shinaran family 1/2 kilometer to the east of the settlement. The attack happened in the middle of the night when settlers attempted to burn the tent where the family lives. The settlers used stones and stakes in the attack. Mohammed Abed Al Rahamd Shinaran, age 28, and Azeez Abed Al Rahman Shinaran, age 26, were injured in the attack. Mohammed's head and left arm were injured, and Azeez suffered wounds to his left arm and back. The settlers threatened the family, claiming that if they don't leave their homes, they will face worse attacks. Two hours later, the army came and took the two injured people to the medical center inside the settlement. They were transferred later to the 'Alya Hospital in Hebron. The soldiers took no actions against the settlers. In the last three weeks the residents in this area have faced many attacks. Three days before, the settlers also uprooted many olive trees.

On March 25th, the settlers from the outposts in downtown Hebron renewed the attacks on Jamal Abu Is'efan house. In the afternoon they stoned the hose which injured Salam Hisham Abu is'efan and Asala Hisham Abu Is'efan as they played near the house.

On March 29th, settlers from the Sosya settlement to the south east of Yatta brought a mobile home and placed it on land they are trying to take over for a new settlement. The place is located 1km to the south of the settlement. The new outpost, built on 8 dunams of land, belongs to the Haddar family from Yatta. Land Defense Committees said that this is part of an ongoing settlement project in the that area, which aims at confiscating hundreds of dunams through the construction of such outposts and by designating huge areas "closed military zones" by the army.

On March 30th, many activists from local and international organizations organized an activity to plant olive trees on the land located to the west of Kiryat Arba' which earlier, settlers had tried to take over. During the activity, settlers came with soldiers and attacked activists with stones and stakes. The event happened during the Land Day demonstrations.

Bethlehem Region

On March 25th, the Army Officer in the West Bank issued an order to confiscate 80 dunams in the Beer Ona area near the city of Beit Jala. According to the order, they will seize 80 dunams. The aim of the confiscation is to build a security fence around the Gilo settlement from the south side. The land belongs to Na'eem Abu Sa'da.

Nablus and the Northern West Bank

On February 23rd, Mahmoud Aesh Da'ajna 22 from the village of Fasa'el located to the north of Jericho was injured seriously after he was shot by a settler. As Mahmoud was shepherding his goats near his village a settler came and opened fire on him. He was taken by soldiers who gave him to the Palestinian Authority in the city, after which he was taken to the hospital.

On March 3rd, in the afternoon, five settlers from Itsehar settlement in the Nablus District stopped Bed Alkareem Anabosi and Bara' Anabosi while they were traveling to their home in Tobas. The settlers attacked them with stones and with their hands. Both were taken to a local clinic in the town.

On March 11th, the army prevented farmers from Kufor Kaddom village east of Qalqeelya city from entering their land located near the Kadomeem settlement. A farmer, Awwad Aed Al Hadee reports that "over the past five years settlers have prevented us from working in our land located near the settlement. The soldiers used to ask us for special permissions from the Israeli authority to enter the land. It has not been confiscated but they told us many times these actions are for the security of the settlers. As a result of this policy, we cannot go and work regularly on our land, which has negatively effected the production of the trees, which we need to tend to regularly throughout the year. In addition, we face ongoing attacks from settlers if we manage to obtain the permission."

On March 15th, three Israeli bulldozers continued the leveling and damaging the land near the Rotem settlement east of Tobas city in the north valleys. The work is under the settler's control. Palestinian sources in the city said "it seems that the settlers are going to expand the settlement and put new fences on the land." In the last year, around 200 dunams have been seized by the settlers around the settlement and in the Wadi Maleh village.

On March 15th, three Palestinians from the Awarta village in the Nablus District were injured when five settlers opened fire on them. Local resources said that the settlers came to the village and shot people who had been near the school. Two of the injured people were taken to Rafidya Hospital in Nablus and the other one was taken to a local medical center of the Health Works Committees in the village.

On March 24th, bulldozers started working and damaging the land to the south-east of Annab settlement in the Tulkarem district. Palestinian sources said that this work is intended to build a new road for the settlement. Ten dunams will be damaged in this area. The sites where the work is taking place are Khalyel Saboba, Khalel Diayab and Maraheen. The land belongs to many families from the nearby villages Kufer, Labad and Beit Leed.

On March 30th settlers from Shavi Shamron in cooperation with soldiers built new mobile homes on the land around the settlement. Months ago, the settlers fenced in around 20 dunams near the settlement in order to expand it. These actions are taking place as the army and settles are constructing a new cement wall around the settlement on land they recently confiscated from many families from the nearby Palestinian village of Deir Sharaf. At this time, 600 meters of the wall have been finished.

On March 30th, around 40 settlers, some of them armed, came from various settlements in the Nablus District and attacked farmers and shepherds in the small
village of Tana to the east of the Beit Foreek town in the Nablus area. The settlers inured 26 goats with knives; later five of the goats died. The settlers also attacked a shepherd, Fa'q Shaher Abu Hait. The Mayor of Beit Foreek said that the settlers have often attacked the farmers in the village.
