Public meeting in Hebron on Prisoners Day

The 17th of April marked Palestinian Prisoners Day, commemorated annually as a means for remembering and informing the local and international communities about the ongoing suffering of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.

Events were held for a week in honour of the approximately 11,000 Palestinian political prisoners currently imprisoned in Israeli jails; this number includes hundreds of Palestinian children and 920 Palestinians held in administrative detention, without charges or trial. Conducted by popular committees, prisoner support groups and most importantly the tens of thousands of family members of prisoners, these events serve as a reminder to both the prisoners and the world that the prisoners are not forgotten.

With almost all Palestinian families directly affected by political imprisonment, whether now or in the past, public mobilization on Prisoners Day was strong, as seen here in Hebron.
