On Land Day, 29 March, at the Martyrs Cultural Center in the Palestinian town of Dura, the first meeting of organized by the Land Day Memorial Committee took place. More than 100 people, coming as representatives of various associations and as individuals participated in a two-hour meeting. During the meeting, the Land Research Center gave a presentation, including discussion of the settlements, the Wall, resources, the problems in East Jerusalem.

The Palestinian national unity government opened a space for more organizations to be part of this unique movement, to express the unity of our society that already exists. This can be the only way to effectively stop the Israeli policies against us, like the building and the extension of the settlements, the demolitions, and the Wall, and to move forward the recognition of our rights and our freedom.

The Arab initiative was endorsed unchanged by the Arab League summit meeting in the Saudi capital Riyadh on March 28-29 amid mainly Israeli demands for amendments thereto and a flurry of diplomatic activity unprecedented in recent years aimed at amending it, despite a denial by the visiting US Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice.

In the last three weeks, the Israeli authorities have issued one hundred eviction orders to villagers in the unrecognized Bedouin village of al-Nasasra, located in the Negev. The village warmly welcomed a large group of Israeli and international visitors to a meeting organized through the Israeli organization, the Association of Forty, which represents those living in unrecognized villages, working to get recognition for them on a local and international basis.
