Two Members of the European Parliament became the first British parliamentarians to meet with Ismail Hanieh of Hamas
since his election as Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority.
He made
clear his government's commitment to comply with the requirements of the
Quartet, in particular through recognition of Israel. He insisted that he would engage with the
Quartet "without reservation. But he also warned that the Palestinian
Authority risked complete collapse if it was not given support, and the
consequences of that would be grim.

In response
to ACRI`s appeal to the Defense Minister, Amir Peretz, the Defense Ministry
have decided to cancel movement restrictions banning all Palestinian residents
of the West Bank from entering the area of the Jordan Valley by the end of May
2007.

It was reported in Haaretz
that Israel’s
nuclear whistle blower Mordechai Vanunu was convicted Monday by the Jerusalem
Magistrates Court of violating a military order prohibiting him from talking to
foreign nationals. He was also convicted of attempting to leave Jerusalem in the direction of Bethlehem.

the good sense to see what was coming—the security forces in cooperation with
the judicial system of Israel decided to take
steps against, what they call the “strategic threat,” of the Palestinian
citizens of Israel,
and to do away with their leaders. They want to return us to the days of
martial law—to fear, to the permits, to the dark cells of the security forces,
to the era in which only collaborators could claim at least some of their
rights.

Beit Ummar
, located in the northern part of the
Hebron
district. Beit Ummar is an agricultural village of about 12,000 people, located between the
Bethlehem
and
Hebron
municipalities, close to the Israeli settlement of Karmi Tzor.
