morning (Tuesday 14 May), after two years of imprisonment without trial or
charges.

In a series of incomplete
and manipulative messages, which it revealed to Jews only, Israel's General Security Service (the Shabak) declared that Azmi
Bishara had caused harm to state security in wartime, and should be brought to trial
for treason. A majority of journalists and media outlets disseminated this message as is, even
embellishing it. Politicians
from both the right and left determined that Bishara had "crossed the line", and
suggested myriad forms of punishment. Together they have created a public atmosphere which totally
precludes a fair and reasonable debate regarding the accusations brought against Bishara by the
Shabak.

A meeting took place on 29 April in the Halhul
municipality hall, between around 20 citizens and farmers from Haulhul and Beit
Ummar villages. The main issue of the meeting was about what actions to take to counter the ongoing
expansion of the settlement called Karmei Tzur. The people of the villages decided to have this meeting
to discuss about creating a kind of organization between them to improve
practical actions on the ground. With this decision, there is an awareness that
is fundamental to attract the attention of the media about this case, to spread
the message not only about the political aspect of the Israeli colonization of Palestine, but also the
suffering and the human face of the occupation.

On 5 May, residents of the twin West Bank
Palestinian villages of al-Nu’man and al-Khas, now separated by the
wall that runs along the municipality borders of Jerusalem, together
with Israeli and international activists, held a symbolic demonstration
at the fence that prevents them from seeing each other.
