Ahoti?s Letter of Apology

On June 20th 2004 we posted on our website an article entitled ?Apartheid in Israeli Anthropology? signed by Orna Zaken, then CEO of ?Ahoti- movement for women in Israel? (the article is no longer available on our website). The article included several allegations against Dr. Dan Rabinowitz and Dr. Sliman Khawaldi. Following an examination on behalf of ?Ahoti? it was discovered that the allegations lacked any factual basis. At the request of Dr. Rabinowitz and Dr. Khawaldi we are publishing the letter of apology written by ?Ahoti.? We also apologize for any inconvenience we may have caused by posting the article.

The Letter of Apology of Ahoti:

Date: November 9, 2005

To: Dan Rabinowitz, PhD,                       Sliman Khawaldi, PhD
Dept. of Sociology and Anthropology     Ahva Teachers Training College
Tel-Aviv Univeristy

1. An article signed by 'Ahoti ? Movement for Women in Israel', published on June 20th 2004 in the internet site of the Alternative Information Center, and sent through the e-mailing lists of 'Ahoti', entailed a number of allegations against the two of you.
2. Subsequent examination on the part of 'Ahoti' established that these allegations lacked any factual basis.
3. We hereby apologize for any damage to your professional integrity and reputation that may have come about as a result of this publication.
4. To compensate for any grievance you may have suffered, 'Ahoti' has paid an agreed sum to each of you as damages.
5. 'Ahoti' is particularly dismayed that this publication blemished two researchers whose work is dedicated to effecting positive change in Israeli society and culture.
6. We hope that as this unnecessary and sorry affair draws to a close, ways will be found for cooperation between us to advance positive social change in Israel.

Sincerely,

Shula Keshet, CEO
Ahoti
