The state of Israel is planning to charge Ameer Makhoul, Chairperson of Ittijah: Union of Arab Community-Based Associations, with espionage, conspiracy, assistance to the enemy at wartime and contact with a foreign agent. So reports the Hebrew online news source Ynet.
The state prosecution announced plans to press these charges in an affidavit submitted to court this afternoon (25 May) in support of its request to extend the detention of Makhoul.
Amnesty International has called upon the Israeli authorities to stop harassing Makhoul and other Palestinian human rights defenders.
The AIC continues to stand in solidarity with Ameer Makhoul and his struggle for the national and human rights of the Palestinian people, wherever they may be.
