Ameer Makhoul, General Director of Ittijah, was taken in for investigation this afternoon by two officers of the Shabak (the Israeli Secret Service). Makhoul was taken from the Haifa headquarters of Ittijah, the Union of Arab Community based Associations.

The Shabak had called Makhoul in for investigation two days ago, but he refused to go since he has the right, under the law, to reject the Shabak demand.
Today, a Shabak officer phoned Makhoul and asked him to go to the investigation or else they would come themselves to take him. Five minutes later, the two Shabak officers were at Ittijah’s offices and took him away.
This is part and parcel of the Israeli attempt to oppress the voices of Palestinians supporting Gaza. Makhoul, an active figure and chairman of the Committee for the Defence of Freedoms, was targeted given his role in the coordination and organization of recent public activities in support of our people in Gaza.
