Israeli petition against election war on Gaza

Created on 18 November 2012

To: PM Benjamin Netanyahu, Minister of Defense Ehud Barak, Israeli government Ministers

No to the Election War, Yes to Dialogue

We, the undersigned Israeli citizens, hereby declare: The election war is not our war. We petition you with the demand to halt the Gaza bloodbath immediately, and initiate a d-i-a-l-o-g-u-e now.

Massive bombardments of Gaza are not the solution to the firing of missiles on southern and central Israel. On the contrary, these bombardments kill numerous civilians and strengthen opposition to Israeli actions. Time and again, Israeli governments have embarked on "Terror Elimination”  campaigns. The fact that four years after Operation Cast Lead, the Israeli government is conducting a similar campaign proves that an oppressed people's uprising cannot be quelled.

The ongoing occupation of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip (Yes! even after the disengagement, Israel still controls the air and water around the Gaza Strip, swathes of land inside it, and even the population registry) lies at the core of the missiles fired on Sderot and Tel Aviv, and the way to prevent all this is d-i-a-l-o-g-u-e.

Gilad Shalit won his freedom through negotiation with Hamas. Why can one negotiate the fate of one person, but not the fate of millions, including all of us? The imperative of this day is d-i-a-l-o-g-u-e.

We hereby declare that we will not support or assist in your war of choice, destructive to the lives of us all. We will also call on our friends and relatives to do the same.

War and the mass killing of civilians in the Gaza Strip are not our way. D-i-a-l-o-g-u-e is the only way.

Signed by Israeli citizens
