The administrative detainee Khader Adnan, hospitalized in the “Ziv” Hospital in Zafad, is on the 53rd day of the hunger strike he started on the day following his arrest.

Khader Adnan has spent over a month on hunger strike to protest Israel's policies, which include holding political prisoners on administrative detention without charges
Adnan still does not know why he was arrested or the nature of the charges laid against him. An administrative arrest is an arbitrary arrest performed on the basis of an administrative order by a military officer alone, without a judicial ruling, without indictment, and without a trial. Israel employs administrative detention in a manner that stands in grave breach of the international law by applying it to a vast number of people and under the heavy veil of secrecy that prevents the detainees from establishing a proper defense in court. According to the Israeli Prison Service there are over 300 administrative detainees in Israel.
Adnan is currently held at the “Rivka Ziv” hospital in Zafad, shackled to his bed by hands and feet. Although Adnan refuses to be examined by the personnel of the hospital, the Israeli Prison Service would not allow doctors from Physicians for Human Rights to access and examine the detainee.
Adnan's lawyer had reported to the media on his deteroriating health after meeting him yesterday in the hospital and finding him feeble and vomiting. His wife, Randa, who visited him today, for the first time since his imprisonment, reports that he has lost more than third of his body-weight, he is losing his hair, and his condition is constantly detriorating. According to the Israeli Medical Association the potential physiological changes after 45 to 75 days of complete hunger strike include "death as a result of cardio-vascular collapse and/or severe arrhythmia". Despite all that, Adnan was transferred between five hospitals and detention facilities.
Additional people have recently joined Adnan's hunger strike, among them his father, ten Palestinian detainees, and Gazan students.
Khader Adnan has been on a 53 day long hunger strike against the practice of administrative detentions. He might die at any moment.
