Please join us on Saturday, January 28, at 8:00 pm for a discussion with Al Haq attorney Elisabeth Koek about the illegality of land swap agreements under the Israeli occupation

Al Haq argues that, as a consequence of the occupation, Palestinians and Israelis are not on equal footing and so Palestinian decision-makers act under duress and are not always able to act in the best interest of the occupied population. This photo of a recent demolition of a Palestnian home in the West Bank's Area C aptly illustrates the uneven balance of power. (photo: Operation Dove)

Elisabeth Koek is an attorney at Al Haq's Department of Legal Research and Advocacy. She will discuss Al Haq's position paper, "Exploring the illegality of 'Land Swap' Agreements under Occupation," which examines the legal implications of 'land swap' agreements ddiscussed by Israel and the Palestinian representatives in the midst of the ongoing Israeli occupation of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip.

As a natural consequence of the occupation, parties are not on an equal footing, thus limiting the ability of the authorities of the occupied territory to act freely - without military pressure - in the interest of the occupied population. The position paper reveals how Israel's policies and practises in the OPT amount to a form of colonialism and are part of an apartheid system.

We look forward to seeing you at this important event!
