Muqawama-Resistir (Resist!)The Alternative Information Center has launched Muqawama-Resistir (Resist!), a Castellano-language radio programme of news and analyses about the socio-political, economic and cultural developments in Palestine and Israel. The programme, broadcast weekly, aims to contribute to the formation of an international front in which social activists from the global south are directly connected to each other.
According to Shadi Rohana, who coordinates the AIC’s Castellano-language website, “In the past, international relations between and amongst activists from the South was often indirect, through the mediation of superpowers. Today, it is often through northern donor countries. Muqawama-Resistir is a tool to inform and cultivate direct relations between activists in Palestine and Israel with social activists and movements in Spanish-speaking countries.”
“We particularly wish to continue cultivating relations with activists and social movements in Latin America,” notes Sergio Yahni, Programme Director for the AIC. “For years the AIC has acted, through its dissemination of political analyses and work within the World Social Forum, to enhance South-South solidarity. Muqawama-Resistir will be distributed primarily through community radios in Latin America, reaching tens of thousands of people throughout the area.”
Two programmes have been produced to date, which provide a brief of local political developments and more in-depth pieces, including Palestinian political prisoners and the history of joint Palestinian-Israeli activism of the Alternative Information Center. Stories planned for the future include a review of liberation theology in Palestine and the escuelita school for the children of migrant labourers in Tel Aviv.
Muqawama-Resistir is the most recent feature of the AIC Castellano-language website, which includes translations of socio-political analyses from grassroots Palestinian and Israeli activists, in addition to material written in Spanish specifically for the website.
Muqawama-Resistir and the entire Castellano-language website are labors of love and political commitment, produced almost entirely by a dedicated group of volunteers from throughout the world.
