Film screening: Intifada

With an introduction by the director Robert Krieg

And followed by discussion and memories!

Robert Krieg is a German filmmaker who was the only person to make a documentary film during the First Intifada from inside the West bank. Most of the film was shot in Beit Sahour and shows the struggle against the occupation during the First Intifada.

Many of the young people that we see in this film are middle aged men now, still living and working in Beit Sahour! Come and see if you recognize them, yourself, your friends, your former comrades…

Robert Krieg has been involved in the Palestinian cause for a long time. After his first visit to Israel on an exchange program in 1968 he started to get an interest for the conflict. In 1979 he visited a German PFLP member who was in an Israeli prison after he had been involved in preparing an attack and was captured in Kenia.
In 1988 he was in Beit Sahour to prepare the film about the First Intifada, which he shot in 1989.

In 1991 he was involved in a training program for TV journalism in East Jerusalem and later he helped setting up the Palestinian Broadcasting Coop, a radio station in Jericho.
