 Summer season

The summer season has started for the AICafe which means that from now on we will start our events on Tuesday and Saturday nights at 8pm! If you don't want to miss the start of the event, please make sure to be on time! The cafe will be open from 7pm for a drink. We will start at 8pm exactly!

Tomorrow (Tuesday 15th of April) we planned for a cultural evening with a music performance by music group 'Kazar' (garden of flowers)

Kazar plays both traditional Palestinian music as well as pieces influenced by Mediterranean and Balkan folk music. The group has practiced in the AIC over the past months and this will be there first performance here in the AICafe.

Doreen is a Palestinian from Jerusalem who plays the out (traditional Palestinian instrument), Johanna is from Germany and plays the violin and Raed is a Palestinian from Bethlehem who plays the tabla.

Another musical event that we would like to draw your attention to:

Music project across the walls

Music crosses boundaries. On Thursday April 17 at sunset, the music event “Carried by the Wind” by composer Merlijn Twaalfhoven will not only bridge the differences between different styles and cultures, but literary traverses the walls that separate inhabitants of Bethlehem from each other.
About fifty singers, percussion and wind players of all ages are placed on rooftops near the separation wall at Rachel’s Tomb. In this way, the music reaches out over the divide and connects people that were once neighbours.
“Carried by the Wind” symbolizes the freedom of the creative mind that cannot be obstructed by a fence or wall. The involvement of children opens the perspective on the future.

Dutch composer Merlijn Twaalfhoven is active in writing music for orchestras, choirs and chamber music groups all over the world, but is most known by the remarkable projects he creates on unusual locations. He is now creating a collaboration with Palestinian musicians in Jordan, the West Bank and Holland. His intention is to highlight the cultural richness of Palestine and to stimulate more artistic contact between Europe and the Middle East.

This project is a collaboration between Khalil Sakakini Cultural Centre, Sabreen for Artistic Development, Al Ruwwad, La Vie sur Terre and Arab Education Institute Open Windows and is supported by Netherlands Fund for Performing Arts.
